Kitchen Design Ideas Require Creativity and Result In Satisfaction

Kitchen design ideas are not difficult to come by, but do require some creativity. When it comes to designing kitchens, the key is practicality and comfort. Many kitchen plans in the past concentrated on large, fancy and not that convenient kitchen cabinets, appliances and other items that got in the way. Kitchen design today is based around what is best and most convenient for the homeowner, while still staying attractive and pleasing to the eye.

Mike and Jill, new homeowners, were recently talking to some friends about their plans for a new kitchen design and makeover. They received a wide variety of ideas. Everyone has advice to give about the perfect kitchen design. Everyone’s taste is just a bit different, and kitchens are such individual places, it quickly became apparent that the kitchen design Mike and Jill would choose was not exactly what their friends would want. But, that’s ok. If everyone had the same taste in kitchen design the world would be a boring place indeed. Finding ideas isn’t difficult though. In addition to friends, many magazines are available that have pictures of various model kitchens, and these spark a plethora of kitchen design ideas.

When Mike began planning his kitchen design he knew from his reading that budgeting the cost was a primary factor, as well as considering the size of the kitchen. He also took into account the type of cabinets he wished to have, such extras as the type of floor tiles or vinyl to use and the type of lighting and other features.

One of Mike’s goals was to have a built in dishwasher. He and Jill both hated washing dishes by hand, and Mike didn’t like the idea of a portable dishwasher taking up room outside of the cabinet spaces. He picked out a top of the line built in dishwasher and planned to install it in his kitchen cabinets. Jill loved that idea, but her favorite idea was lots and lots of cabinets. These cabinets would store her library of cookbooks and big wooden blocks to hold her knives. Jill’s idea of kitchen design leaned toward the traditional in many ways. Her mother and grandmother both taught her a lot of the ideas that she maintains. She also wanted a very large side by side refrigerator, but she was concerned about the space it would take up. Mike did some rearranging and determined that it would fit fine if they left the chest freezer in the utility room. Their kitchen design simply could not include such a large freezer, so it went elsewhere, still available but not taking up valuable kitchen space.

Jill was also set on having an island in the middle of the floor which would also contain storage area, as well as cutting blocks. But she wanted the island to be on small rollers so that it could be moved when convenient. Mike agreed with the soundness and utility of this kitchen design idea and wholeheartedly agreed to it. In fact Mike and Jill usually agreed on most aspects of kitchen design and planning.

When engaging in kitchen design always sit down and create kitchen plans – perhaps several sets. Knowledge is power, as the old saying goes. When it comes to kitchen design, knowledge is also creativity. You’ll be able to plan several variations of your kitchen plans and use them to come up with the best fit for you, your family and your lifestyle, because good kitchen design is a positive lifestyle choice.
